PRIVACY POLICY
Dear Customer,
Please find below our privacy policy for the year July 2004 – June 2005.
Privacy
Bank of India is committed to protecting customer information. Since customer privacy is very important to us, we will not share nonpublic information about customers with third parties outside of the Bank of India corporate family without their consent, except as explained below in our Privacy Policy.
Privacy Policy
Bank of India considers protection of customers’ privacy as a very important responsibility. With this in view we explain below what information we may gather about customers and how we may be sharing it. We do not sell or rent customers’ personal information to third parties. Our Privacy Policy applies to our website also.
Categories of information we collect
In the course of providing customers with financial products or services, we may collect nonpublic personal information about them from the following sources –
- information we receive from them on applications or other forms like copies of tax returns and Personal Financial Statements. This information may include their name, address, Social Security Number, Passport No., other ID numbers, employment information, income and credit reference and may be provided by them in writing, in person, by telephone, electronically or by any other means.
- information about their transactions with us, our affiliates, or others. This information may include balances in their accounts, usage of account, parties to transactions and payment records.
- Information we receive from consumer reporting agencies. Such information may include information about their accounts, their creditworthiness and credit history.
- Public sources. This information may include telephone numbers and real estate records.
Categories of information we disclose
- To third parties not affiliated to us –
We may disclose nonpublic personal information about customers to non affiliated third parties, without their consent or direction, as permitted by law, such as - to comply with federal, state or local laws, rules and other applicable legal requirements;
- to comply with a properly authorized civil, criminal or regulatory investigation, or subpoena or summons by federal, state or local authorities; or
- to respond to judicial process or government regulatory authorities having jurisdiction over us for examination, compliance or other purposes as authorized by law.
- to consumer reporting agencies.
- to protect against or prevent actual or potential fraud, unauthorized transactions, claims or other liability.
- to provide information to insurers, guarantee funds or agencies, agencies that are rating us, persons that are assessing our compliance with industry standards, our attorneys, accountants and auditors.

To our affiliates –
We may disclose information about customers to our affiliates. We may disclose all of the categories of information we collect about them, including their identity such as name and address, credit reports such as their credit history, application information such as their income or credit references, transactions in their accounts and our experience with them and information from other third parties such as their employment history.Customers may opt-out of our sharing of application and third party credit-related information about them within our corporate family. For joint accounts, a request by one account-holder will apply to the entire account. While we honour their instructions on restricting such information sharing, such restriction will not extend to the sharing of other information, like their name and address and their account transactions and experiences with our affiliates.
- Our Privacy Policy applies to both current and former customers.
We may disclose nonpublic personal information as necessary to effect, administer, or enforce a transaction that customers request or authorize, or in connection with servicing or processing a financial product or service that they request or authorize.
We may disclose all of the information we collect as described under “categories of information we collect” to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing arrangements. We do not provide nonpublic personal information about customers to any nonaffiliated third party whose products and services are being marketed, without their specific authorization. These non affiliated third parties are also not allowed to use such information for purposes beyond what was authorized by the customer.
Confidentiality and Security
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about customers to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to them or for Bank’s operations. All our employees are under a Declaration of Fidelity and Secrecy not to communicate or allow to be communicated to any persons not legally entitled thereto any information relating to the affairs of any person having any dealing with us. Our employees do not allow any such person to inspect or have access to any books or documents belonging to or in the possession of the bank or the business of any person having any dealing with us. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard customers’ nonpublic personal information.
This Privacy Policy applies only to non-public personal information about individuals who obtain financial products or services provided by us in the United States, primarily for personal, family, or household purposes (not companies or individuals who obtain financial products or services for business, commercial or agricultural purposes). We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify customers of any changes. In any case, we will send customers a current Privacy Policy statement at least once a year as long as they continue to be customers. The examples contained in this policy are illustrative and not exhaustive in nature.
This section describes your privacy choices
We offer you the Opt Out Choices listed below concerning the sharing of nonpublic personal information, as well as the choices not to be contacted by mail or by telephone.
We will limit the personal information about you that we may disclose to nonaffiliated third parties if you check Box 1 below.
We may share information about you among affiliates of Bank of India. The law allows us to share with our affiliates any information about our transactions or experiences with you. Unless otherwise permitted by law, we will not share with our affiliates other information that you provide to use or that we obtain from third parties (for example, credit bureaus) if you check Box 2 below.
If you wish to be taken off our mailing and/or telemarketing lists that we may use for offering our products and services, you may check Box 3 and/or Box 4 below, as applicable.
If you decide that you want to choose any or all these options, please complete the appropriate opt-out section(s) below. Please include your identifying information and mail the Opt-Out Choices to us.
